What is Scambusters?

Scambusters is here to provide the most up-to-date information on the latest scams targeting timeshare owners. Your Scambusters team protects you from unscrupulous resale, rental, cancellation, transfer, and relief companies. Since launching these fraud alert efforts years ago, WorldMark is more devoted than ever to keeping you informed, empowered, and on guard against companies that aim to profit by misleading you.

Some of these companies claim to be able to help you sell or exit your timeshare, even using misleading tactics such as claiming to represent WorldMark by Wyndham or the American Resort Development Association (ARDA). Unfortunately, many owners have trusted these companies, even signing over their power of attorney and paying up-front fees for services that are never completed ‐ leading to anguish, financial hardship, and negative impacts to their credit report.

Beware of scams.

Do you know how to identify a potential timeshare exit scam? Here are some tips to help you spot fraudulent activity:

Stay Cautious – You may be told you can easily exit your timeshare for a fee. While this offer may sound enticing, typically nothing happens after the fee is paid. Remember, WorldMark by Wyndham will never ask you to pay anything upfront for assistance exiting your ownership. Be wary of requests or claims to modify or cancel your WorldMark timeshare or representatives stating there’s an interested buyer for your timeshare.

Ask Questions – Is the person calling you claiming to be affiliated with WorldMark by Wyndham? Ask the caller for specific information such as their name, their company name, location, and their company number so you can verify it. If someone contacts you with an offer about your timeshare, be sure to do your research. When in doubt, reach out directly to your WorldMark by Wyndham team.

Most importantly, remember that we are here for you. If you think you may have fallen victim to a scam or have received a phone call that could be a scam, contact the Scambusters team at 866-515-6989.
