Beginning this spring, your club resorts are moving away from single-use bathroom amenities and are replacing them with bulk options. This means you’ll start seeing large dispensers in your resort bathrooms for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion, instead of the tiny plastic bottles used in the past. There are many reasons for making this change, beginning with your club’s commitment to sustainability, and the expectations of owners like you to see these sustainability practices in action. By doing our part to be environmentally responsible in reducing plastic waste, we ensure that less plastic goes into landfills and ultimately less plastic ends up in the world’s oceans.
This year has seen several states— New York and California among them — mandating the use of bulk bathroom amenities at hotels and resorts, and more states are expected to follow suit. In addition to complying with new regulations and reducing plastic waste, using bulk amenities is a cost-effective longterm option that is convenient for both owners and staff. Your club is not alone in this effort as many hotels and resorts worldwide are moving away from single-use bathroom amenities in favor of large bottles or dispensers. Bulk amenities have been the standard in many countries for several years, and U.S. hotels and resorts are also committed to this environment-friendly practice.
As the hospitality industry makes this shift, some travelers have raised concerns about the possibility of germs or tampering. If you’re worried about this, rest easy — methods are in place to keep everything safe and sanitary. The bulk dispensers being installed at your resorts all have tamper-proof locks, so you can be confident the contents inside each bottle are what the label says. Cleaning the exterior of the dispensers will now be part of the housekeeping process, assuring you that all amenities are sanitary and germ-free.
